Abstract

The influence of the processes of birth and death of a defect on the membrane lifetime distribution is analyzed with the assumption that the membrane can contain not more than one defect. The finite rate of defect formation leading to the appearance of a maximum in the membrane lifetime probability density was taken into account. Different limiting cases were analyzed and the classification of possible mechanisms of membrane breakdown have been made on this basis. The results presented are useful for the development of a membrane breakdown theory in the case of an arbitrary number of defects in the membrane.
