Abstract

• New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) and River Falls Area Hospital (RFAH), both part of Allina Health, are critical access hospitals (CAHs) with 62 and 25 licensed beds, respectively. • Antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) improve patient care by reducing inappropriate antimicrobial use, antimicrobial resistance, and hospital-acquired infections. • Guidelines recommend an ASP be led by an ID physician and ID-trained pharmacist; however, these resources are often difficult to obtain. • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a pharmacist-driven ASP in two CAHs using a remote ID pharmacist and ID pharmacy resident within the same healthcare system as the ID specialists overseeing the ASP.
