Abstract

Introduction: Minimal information exists regarding early complications following operatively treated proximal humerus fractures. The purpose of this study was to assess the rate and types of early complications in this patient population. Methods: From January 1995 to December 2002, one-hundred sixteen shoulders had operative treatment of acute proximal humerus fractures. Twelve had less than 3 months of follow-up and were excluded. Eighty-two shoulders with osteosynthesis and twenty-two shoulders with hemiarthroplasty were followed clinically and radiographically for early medical and surgical complications.
