Abstract

This chapter explains the advantage of using floating-point operation in PLCs, FX2N, and FX2NC PLCs. Through floating point numbers both, very small and very large numbers can be processed. The number range lies from -3.403 x 10+38 to +3.403 x 10+38, and smallest available change is +/-1.175 x 10-38. The chapter provides instructions used with integer, floating-point and scientific notation numbers. FLT converts an integer number to a floating-point number, when M8023 is OFF, and converts a floating point number back to an integer number, when M8023 is ON. INT on the other hand converts a floating-point number to a 16-bit integer number, irrespective of the state of M8023. Similarly, conversions for DINT, DEBCD, DEBIN are given.
