Abstract

Although there are no FDA-approved medications for borderline personality disorder (BPD) in children or adults, child and adolescent psychiatrists are often put in the position of managing psychotropic medications in this population. This presentation will demonstrate how principles from DBT and mentalization-based treatment (MBT) can be applied to managing medications in safe and effective ways. Participants will also be given an overview of the studies that have been done on medications for BPD and for self-harm.
