Children with neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDDs) have long been considered to have lower risk for suicidal ideation when compared to typically developing peers. Our discussion focuses on a study of suicide risk screening at outpatient medical clinics serving children with NDDs. We will review the planning for and implementation of universal suicide risk screening in this setting. We will also describe the outcomes along with the lessons learned.
