Abstract
The quadrupole perturbed $^{23}\mathrm{Na}$ NMR spectra and spin-lattice-relaxation rates of a deuterated ammonium Rochelle salt have been studied between 300 and 10 K. The spectra show a discontinuous change at ${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{c}}$=122 K as well as a commensurate behavior below ${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{c}}$. No evidence for a classical one-dimensionally modulated incommensurate phase associated with an acoustic phason branch has been found. The possible occurrence of a rippled commensurate phase in which the order parameter oscillates around a commensurate value and the amplitude and wavelength of the oscillations decrease with decreasing temperature is discussed.
