234 Epidemiology of Emergency Department Pediatric and Adolescent Opioid Use Across the United States

Abstract

Acute pain is prevalent in over 50% of pediatric ED visits. For moderate to severe pain, opioids are frequently utilized during and prescribed from the ED. Prescription opioid abuse by adolescents is becoming an increasing problem in the United States (US). Our objective was to characterize the trend of opioids administered in the ED and prescribed from the ED in a national representative sample.
