Abstract

This study deals with wheel flange climbing, which is noticed after the derailment accident occurred on Hibiya Subway Line. An analytical model of running one-axle truck is built assuming simplified shapes of wheel tread and rail head. Two cases are investigated according to the situation of flange contact. One is the case where wheel flange contacts with rail keeping contact also between wheel tread and rail. The other is the case where wheel beginning to lift and flange climbs on rail. Simulation results are shown for both cases, and the outline of experimental apparatus, which aims to verify the availability of the model, is explained.
