Abstract

At a tertiary cardiac care institution 32% of patients with diabetes undergoing cardiac surgery developed an infection. Hyperglycemia is often observed following cessation of standard intravenous insulin infusion (IVII) postoperatively. To treat hyperglycemia a protocol was developed to guide the transition to subcutaneous (SC) insulin postcoronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).
