Abstract
Objectives: Estradiol (E2) is a psychoprotective hormone, inducing labour whereas Progesterone (Pg) has a pregnancy maintaining function. Studies report Pg either to be enhanced or reduced in perinatal depression. Anxiety and depression are the most common psychic diseases in the perinatal period (15-20%). In mothers with premature birth prevalences are even higher. Here, for the first time we analyzed the correlation of Pg and E2, depression and (imminent) preterm birth (PTB). Methods: In the context of a prospective, longitudinal study on biopsychosocial risk and protective factors of PTB, we assessed the Pg and E2 by blood tests.
