Abstract

Physiological myocardial hypertrophy is an important adaptive response to the increased workload of pregnancy. The action potentials(AP) in pregnancy, through unknown molecular mechanisms, are found to have a longer QT-interval dispersion. Using a computer model of myocardial function, we sought to quantify changes in sodium and potassium channel mRNA expression during pregnancy to determine if this accounts for observed changes in the AP.
