Abstract

The speed and angular distributions of S(1D2 and 3P2) atoms produced by 223 nm photodissociation of OCS have been measured by a two-dimensional ion imaging method. The S(1D2) and S(3P2) distributions exhibited similar features; the speed distributions consist of two Gaussian components, and the effective anisotropy parameters (βeff) for the fast and slow components are about 0.1 and 1.0. The result suggests that the triplet products are produced by intersystem crossing following singlet-singlet optical transition(s).
