Abstract

The paper describes the performance of a micro-extensometer for the automatic recording of load–extension curves of single vegetable fibres. The total final load can be varied up to at least 40 kg/mm2 and the extension at full-scale deflection can be varied from less than 1% to about 100%. Sample load–extension curses of two sisal fibres are presented to show the wide variation of mechanical properties with the molecular structure of the fibre wall.
