Abstract

Early recognition of bipolar disorder (BD) remains challenging for clinicians. Children of patients with BD (bipolar offspring) have an increased risk to develop mood disorders in general and BD specifically. Longitudinal bipolar offspring studies provide the opportunity to study the early trajectories of BD. In previous work on the Dutch Bipolar Offspring Study, we reported that BD typically debuts with a (mild) depressive episode. Here, we present findings of the Dutch Bipolar Offspring Study on early (sub)threshold dimensional psychopathology using self-report and clinical assessment.
