Abstract
Because neurons do not spontaneously regenerate their axons, the method of promoting re-combination of a nerve axon is studied by many researchers. The growth direction of nerve axon is drawn by nerve growth factor (NGF). In previous studies, it was demonstrated that axon extension direction is controlled by the concentration gradient of NGF. NGF is mainly secreted from glial cells and neurons. Position information between nerve cell-nerve cell is expected to improve directional control of Axon and extension velocity. Therefore, in this study, we propose a development of Bio-MEMS device that can trap the PC12D by using dielectrophoresis to examine the interaction effect between the position of nerve cell and the expansion direction of nerve axon and the velocity of axon extension.
