Abstract
Adults older than 65 account for almost 20% of all emergency department (ED) visits, over 23.1 million in 2018, and represent a disproportionate number of potentially avoidable inpatient admissions through the ED when compared to younger patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Geriatric Emergency Nurse Initiative Expert (GENIE) consultation during an ED visit on the total ED and inpatient cost of care.
