216: Bedside Ultrasound in the Detection and Management of Abscess

Abstract

To determine the sensitivity of ED ultrasound performed by novice sonographers to detect pus in an abscess structure prior to incision and drainage (I/D). To determine if bedside ultrasound (U/S) results significantly change clinical suspicion of the presence of a true abscess and and of a positive I/D. To determine if clinical suspicion alone is predictive of positive I/D results from a suspected abscess.
