Abstract

Small diameter rods of SUS304 stainless steel were friction welded using a brake type micro-friction welder. The fibrous structures are pressed forward the outside on the heat affected zone and disappear at the weld layer. The hardness distribution of friction welded joint showed that the softened areas existed at the heat affected zone. The maximum tensile strength of welded joints showed about 90% that of the base metal.
