Abstract
Natural frequencies of three types of grinding wheel; a wheel with no slits, with 5-side slits and with 6-side slits, were observed by hammer shock test and finite element method computer simulations. Frequency modes obtained by hammer shock test had good agreement with those obtained by computer simulations. Therefore, it is easy to determine the natural frequencies of grinding wheel by computer simulation without any specialized laboratories or machine shops. Furthermore, it was found that wheels with slits have lower natural frequencies than the one with no slits. Our results may be useful in avoiding undesirable resonance vibrations of wheel.
