Abstract

The uniqueness of textile materials used for biological and chemical protection is in the ability to mix elements (inorganic or organic) in order to obtain fabrics that are capable of impeding the passage of gases, liquids and solids, toxics and corrosives, antibacterials, antimite products, fungicides, etc. A current important application would be the production of fabrics for protection against Sars-Cov-2 (the new coronavirus that led to the current global pandemic). Those properties modernize the present concept of quality, security, good state of products, mainly for the hospital (sanitary filters, protective clothing etc.), domestic, and industrial sectors (protective clothing). In this chapter, concepts, fundamentals, mechanisms of protection, applications, and critical analyses of textiles used for chemical and biological protection are presented.
