Abstract
A 20-Gb/s 60 GHz Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) Radio over Fiber (RoF) system based on injection locking in a Fabry-Perot Laser Diode (FPLD) is described and simulated. In this, optical Millimeter-Wave (MMW) can be generated using low cost FPLD with an external optical injection, using a Distributed Feed Back (DFB) laser diode. The system completely avoids the use of high bandwidth devices to support Radio Frequency (RF). Frequency doubling is also used, such that optical MMW at 37 GHz is generated successfully using injection locking in a FPLD by directly applying 18.5 GHz signal. Simulation result shows good performance for downlink transmission.
