Abstract

In this study, unsteady fluid forces acting on a discoid airfoil simulating a human hand in the sinusoidal pitching motion were measured by using a ring structure 2 elements balance, and also the flow visualization technique was used to aid in understanding the flow field in the near field of the airfoil edge for the wind tunnel test. Furthermore, the vortex-shedding frequency was estimated by the FFT analysis. The unsteady fluid forces were affected by the behavior of vortices shedding from the airfoil edge during the pitching motion, and the flow structure due to the vortex behavior was strongly affected by the reduced frequency.
