Abstract

Various secondary flows are generated in an axial turbine cascade, and the most dominant one is the passage vortex. Additionally, the trailing edge wake discharging from an upstream blade row affects the internal flow of a downstream blade row in an axial turbine. In this study, the curvature of a curved duct, which is considered to be basic model to generate the passage vortex, is related to the passage of an axial turbine cascade. And the flow in the curved duct was analyzed numerically in order to reveal the influence of the strength and the pitch-wise location of wake at the inlet section on the secondary flow structure and the associated loss generation. The computed results showed that the wake distributed on the suction side weakens the passage vortex, on the other hand, that distributed on the pressure side splits it into two vortices in the pitch-wise direction.
