Abstract
Introduction and aims: Malaria is the most important parasitic disease of humans, causing 10000 deaths of pregnant women each year. Pregnant women experience more severe disease with anemia, fever, preterm birth, fetal growth restriction, congenital infection and death of mother and/or fetus. One of the unique features of malaria in pregnancy is the ability of Plasmodium falciparum-parasitized erythrocytes to sequester within the intervillous space of the placenta. We intend to raise awareness to the diagnosis of malaria in pregnancy and its complications in pregnancy.
