Abstract

It is important to understand the effect of flow-induced vibration on the wake behind bluff body. The purpose of this study is to investigate the energy dissipation in bluff body wake by PIV measurement. In order to evaluate the reliability of dissipation measurement, the energy dissipations in the circular cylinder wake obtained by both PIV and hot wire measurement were compared. In addition, energy dissipation in the wake behind the flexible rectangular plate with the shape deformation and the flow induced vibration was measured to make clear the effect of flow-induced vibration in energy dissipation mechanism.
