Abstract

Maternal cigarette smoking has been shown to influence maternal serum biochemical analytes used in prenatal screening for Down syndrome, like increasing serum AFP and decreasing free-B-hCG. Therefore, it has been necessary making a risk correction for maternal smoking in current prenatal diagnosis tests because it can influence the detection rate testing.
