Abstract

Nano-laminated coatings have good tribological properties. But, the friction reduction mechanism is not sufficiently investigated yet. This report aimed to investigate the mechanism from adhesion properties. Two kind of Cu/Mo Nano-laminated coatings, Cu single coating and Mo single coating were formed by sputtering. Sliding test was performed for each specimen. Cu/Mo nano-laminated coating showed the best tribological properties. After sliding test, Cu/Mo nano-laminated coating was analyzed by Atomic Force Microscop (AFM). Cu/Mo nano-laminated coating had mixed surface of Cu and Mo. In order to investigate adhesion properties, friction coefficient of the mixed surface was measured by Friction Curve with different frequency. From the results, it was shown that the mixed surface had inhibitory effect of friction increase. It suggested that the mixed surface had adhesion inhibitory effect and friction reduction effect of Cu/Mo nano-laminated coatings was caused by the adhesion inhibitory effect.
