Abstract

One of the most interesting applications of thermal spray titanium and its alloys is direct forming because it allows quick production of parts with minimal waste of materials. However, oxidation and porosity are major problems because they degrade mechanical properties of the formed coatings. Warm spray is a coating process developed at NIMS, by which one can control the temperature and velocity of sprayed particles. In this study effects of spray conditions on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti and Ti-6A14Vcoatings were investigated. Due to the limitation of available testing materials, mini specimens with total length of about g mm were used to determine their mechanical properties. Additionally, heat treatment was performed in order to enhance the mechanical properties of as sprayed coatings.
