Abstract

In this study, we aim to clarify the strength properties when the bending moment is applied to the adhesively wavy-lap joint made from the dissimilar adherends. Bending strength measurement by four-point flexural test is carried out together with the investigation of the deformation and stress distribution of the joint by three-dimensional finite element stress analysis to determine the effects of combinations of adherend materials on bending strength. In addition, we verified the difference of strength properties by comparing the bending strength in the case of a dissimilar adherend with the case of a similar one. As a numerical result, it was found that the combinations of adherend materials have a significant effect on stress distribution at the adhesive layer. Furthemore, it was also that tendency of stress distribution is independent of the adherend material.
