Abstract

In this research, a basic research on elucidation of fracture mechanisms of the laminated materials by impact load for a new damage tolerant design method is done. Laminated materials of three ply is used, and the impact three-point bending test is conducted. A high-speed video camera is used, and dynamic stress intensity factor is calculated by the digital image correlation method and the caustics method. As a result, the dynamic stress intensity factor calculated from two methods shows a similar tendency. The reliability of the analytical result in the digital image correlation method is confirmed. Furthermore, it is shown that the dynamic interface strength and material characterization are related to the fracture morphology. And, the characteristic of mixed-mode fracture criterion is able to be shown.
