Abstract

The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games were awarded to South Korea on the third attempt. The bidding has been successful; the Organising Committee is accelerating the preparation for hosting, supported by related government departments and a range of other stakeholder groups. The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games are now only one year away and it cannot be denied that problems still exist. However, South Korea is a country that has already hosted numerous global mega sport events, including the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The successful hosting of the Paralympic Games can be achieved through drawing from South Korea’s past experience in hosting sport events and through the historical lessons provided by experiences from other countries.
