Abstract

Thank you for that kind introduction, Dr. Gibson, my fiend—I mean friend, colleague, and past Remington Medalist. Thank you to those who nominated me for this highest award: Dr. Robert Day, Dr. Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, Dr. Wilma Wong, Dr. Clark Gustafson, Dr. Loyd Allen, Dr. Robert Gibson, and Dr. Calvin Knowlton. I come from a pharmacist family: seven out of eight of our practicing pharmacists are here to-night—one had to mind the store. And there are six more pharmacists who have gone before me. In my immediate family of pharmacists is my daughter Nicole Clausen, the Boss, and her veterinary pharmacist-husband Erik Clausen; my daughter Brigette, our newest pharmacist; and my wife Rebecca, who is my love of my life and personal pharmacist. Other family pharmacist members who are present include Dr. Gary Gray, a hospital pharmacist from Visalia, CA, and Dr. Pam Schweitzer, a public health pharmacist from Queens Creek, AZ. My thanks to my staff, especially Dr. Donald Lazzaretto. My Resident Dr. Olivia Ng and friends from far and near and to my pharmacist colleagues from through out this great Country, I accept this Remington Honor Medal on behalf of all of you. About the Remington Honor Medal The Remington Honor Medal, which is the pharmacy profession’s most prestigious award, was established in 1918 to recognize distinguished service on behalf of American pharmacy during the preceding year, culminating in the past year, or during a long period of outstanding activity or fruitful achievement. It was created by what was then the APhA New York Chapter in honor of Joseph P. Remington (1847–1918), eminent community pharmacist, manufacturer, and educator.
