Abstract

Introduction: Stat1 and NF-κN are vital transcription factors for the induction of iNOS by IFN-γ. However, little is known of the counter-regulatory pathways which inhibit iNOS expression in this setting. Gene transcription can be regulated by acetylation of key transcription factor proteins. The role of Stat1 acetylation in this pathway has not been previously examined. We hypothesized that acetylation of the Stat1 protein may regulate macrophage iNOS expression by altering Stat1 binding to the iNOS promoter.
