Abstract
While most structural damage from high wind and seismic events has been attributed tolack of code compliance, the wood industry has sought to develop prescriptive design provisionsbased on engineering principles for high wind and seismic regions. The American Forest & PaperAssociations (AF&PAs) Wood Frame Construction Manual for One- and Two- Family Dwellings(WFCM) 2001 National Edition is a new design tool for design professionals to allow them to designtraditional dwellings for high wind, snow, and seismic loads with a new ease and completeness.<br><br>This paper outlines the content of the WFCM and details how it is applicable to conventionalconstruction. In addition, resources available to designers who wish to learn more about the WFCMare discussed.
