Abstract

An analysis of 200 out-patients with zygomatic fractures is presented. In 79% of the cases the result was satisfactory in its functional and cosmetic aspect. In 42 patients (21%) complications were found, mainly concerning the lid-apparatus, seldom the globe itself. In detail, these were dislocations of the temporal canthus, temporal and downward traction of the palpebral fissure with pseudoptosis, dysfunction of the inferior oblique muscle and postsaccal, lacrimal stenosis after traumatic lesion of the ductus nasolacrimalis. In many cases cosmetic disfiguring resulted. these symptoms and complications, when occurring in zygomatic fractures, should be reason enough to cooperate with the ophthalmologist in diagnosis and treatment.
