Abstract

The functional groups in acetylenic and allenic compounds are transformed to a number of chemical groups under certain conditions. The transformed compounds include acetylenic halogen compounds, acetylenic amino and imino compounds, acetylenic and allenic nitriles, thiocyanates and isothiocyanates, acetylenic aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids, acetylenic esters, dithioesters and carboxamides, ethers, acetylenic sulphides and thiols, acetylenic and allenic sulphooxides, sulphones, sulphinamides and sulphonamides, dimetalllated acetylenic compounds , and copper(I) bromide-catalyzed formation of 2-propargylhetarenes. This chapter describes the detailed mechanism of synthesis of all of these compounds.
