Abstract
Among the major societal concerns, environmental pollution deems to be the most important in the modern world. In order to cope with this problem, effective remediation procedures are required. The environmental pollution is caused by variety of the pollutants including organic, inorganic, airborne, waterborne etc. Pollutants with anthropogenic origins such as heavy metal and hydrocarbons are the leading cause of environmental pollution. Several different remediation technologies notably consistent with their benefits and drawbacks are available for the environmental remediation. Phytoremediation is an environmentally benign technique and is an eventual natural solution of the pollutants. The annexation of nanomaterials with phytoremediation leads to nano-phytoremediation. As a green technology, nano-phytoremediation consists of two-step approach. Firstly, the nanomaterials adsorbed the pollutants and degrade them. These degraded materials (which are still pollution prone) are then accumulated by the plants. The use of nanomaterials in combination with the phytoremediation is a remarkable technology which can clean the environment economically in a sustainable way. The present chapter covers the different features of the nano-phytoremediation which are associated with the environmental remediation along with the future endeavors.
