Abstract

Active transmission control has been used to allow error free propagation of a 20 Gbit/s soliton data stream over 125 Mm in a recirculating loop. The use of a synchronous amplitude modulator in the transmission path suppressed the accumulation of both timing jitter and amplitude noise and also allowed the amplifier spacing to approach the soliton period.
