Abstract

This chapter summarizes the approach to establishing the business case, developing a program blueprint, devising a road map, and implementing a proactive data quality management program which meets a targeted level of organizational maturity that best addresses the need of the collective of information consumers. The purpose of the chapter is to provide a quick guide of the high-level concepts with pointers for further review. Data quality management has evolved from a tools-oriented set of IT activities to a managed and governed set of best practices for data management. This chapter provides a basic idea of ways to successfully identify the business value of data quality management, socialize those ideas among key stakeholders, engender support from senior sponsors, and then execute against a well-defined program plan. Following the guidance in the chapter should result in a democratization of data management's best practices across the organization, thereby improving data quality, strengthening business processes, and giving an organization a competitive edge.
