Abstract

Existing studies demonstrate significantly increased rates of suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, and depression, in addition to high rates of risk behaviors and maladaptive coping among LGBTQ youth. Strength-based interventions that promote resilience and improve mental health in these higher-risk minority populations are quite limited. Investigators developed a manualized CBT-based resilience class (RC) to teach emotional regulation and adaptive coping to depressed LGBTQ teenagers aged 12–17 years.
