Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of two type of exercises for lumbar muscles strength, a cross-sectional area and balance to provide the effective exercise method of lumbar muscles for improving an ability of exercise performance during sports activities. 14 males in 20s were randomly assigned to a resistive exercise group(n=7) or a stabilization exercise group(n=7). Each group performed exercise 50 minutes per session 3 times a week for 8 weeks. The results are as follows: 1. In the change of the function on lumbar muscles from exercise period, each exercise for lumbar muscles is effective to improve lumbar strength. In the change of the cross-sectional area of lumbar muscles, the resistive exercise is effective to increase the cross-sectional area of paraspinalis muscle, and the stabilization exercise is effective for the cross-sectional area increase of multifidus muscle. In the balance change on the left, right, forward and backward exercise, each group showed no effects on lumbar muscle strength. 2. There were no significant differences on lumbar muscle strength among each group. 3. There were no significant differences on the cross-sectional area of lumbar muscles among each group. 4. There were no significant differences on balance of the left, right, forward, and backward among each group.
