Abstract

Methods: After informed consent, 45 patients enrolled in an IRB approved, prospective, randomized study to receive either a crosslinked or a conventional UHMWPE liner in a noncemented hemispheric cup (Trilogy). Both liners are prepared from compression-molded GUR 1050 resin; calcium-stearate free. Highly crosslinked liners undergo further e-beam irradiation and heat-annealing. A 28mm femoral head was used in all cases. 1.0mm tantalum markers were implanted in the liner periphery. RSA film pairs were obtained at 10 days, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years post-op. Harris Hip, UCLA, SF-12, PCS, MCS, and WOMAC scores were obtained.
