Abstract

‘The United States’ Pentecostalism to cross from coast to coast, create denominations, gather resources, organize itself, and propel its message and missionaries to many parts of the world. The theology has been known as the ‘fourfold gospel’ or the ‘foursquare gospel’ and it ascribes four roles to Jesus — Saviour, Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, Healer, and Soon-Coming King. Pentecostalism benefited from the energy and strategic location of the Azusa Street revival, especially as the revival's main leader, W. J. Seymour, preached with such conviction about baptism in the Holy Spirit.
