Abstract

The semiconductor transistor is represented as a p—n junction in which current gain is achieved followed by a space-charge-drift diode across which output voltage is generated. 2-port impedance equations are derived which contain all the basic physical mechanisms of transistor action. The results give an exact description of the small-signal behaviour of the idealised device and are valid for all frequencies of operation.
