2 - Microscale representative volume element: generation and statistical characterization

Abstract

An algorithm to create a representative volume element (RVE) of a unidirectional composite material with a random distribution of reinforcements is detailed in this chapter. The generated distributions are validated for their randomness using statistical descriptors. The elastic properties predicted by the micromechanical numerical modelling using the generated RVEs are compared against analytical methods and an excellent correlation is found.
