Abstract

This chapter presents an overview on the rest of Old Testament and the epigraphic material that reveals the hierarchy of officials of the Judean state. The image presented by the prophetic social critique of the social and political conditions of the pre-exilic Judah, follows the biblical texts just to one side. The chapter discusses the activities of Judean stage and its social consequences. It outlines the external environment in which social development takes place since eighth century. By entering the first stage of the Assyrian vassalage under Ahaz in 733 the Judean kingdom falls into other historical conditions as they existed in the empire of David and Solomon. The chapter discusses the government hierarchy of Judean state. It finally examines the social reform in the Judean state.
