Abstract

Bio-based materials are made from substances derived from living organisms which have a broad range of applications in medicine, packaging, consumer goods, electronics, transportation, construction, and green technologies. Nanotechnology uses biomimetic or bio-inspired processes to prepare nanostructured materials for biology applications. Innovations in nanobiomaterials are revolutionizing our prospective to identify biological complexities and find solutions for biological problems by developing biomimetic and engineering techniques. This chapter aims to provide all aspects of fundamental and applied research related to bio-based nanostructured materials including polysaccharides (chitin, chitosan, and cellulose), carbon, plant proteins, keratin, phage, and natural bioceramics and their biomedical applications.
