Abstract

Though the da Vinci surgical system has dominated the robotic surgery industry for the past 2 decades, numerous novel robotic surgical platforms have emerged over the past several years. Many were designed to specifically address some of the limitations of the current da Vinci surgical systems. This chapter focuses on novel robotic surgical systems for soft tissue surgery, many of which are commercially available or imminently approaching market. Flexible system design, cross-integration with existing equipment, cost minimization, and system miniaturization are several standard features. Additionally, developing single port and flexible endoscopic robotic surgical systems have further expanded the scope of robotic surgery.
