Abstract

This chapter focuses on research relevant to learning complex conceptual information. Although it emphasizes verbal materials, the issues discussed are much broader. Four topical areas will be reviewed: the structure of knowledge and skill domains, the management of instructional materials, the management of learning activities, and the measurement of learning outcomes. The measurement of learning outcomes, however, is so closely related to the other three areas that it will be discussed within those sections.
